Every three years Unifor schedules an Education conference in Port Elgin designed for Education committee members. the conference provides members with an opportunity to meet other activist who are involved in Education. The theme of this year conference is “Truth, Reconciliation and Education.”
The Truth and Reconciliation Commission was tasked with discovering and revealing the experiences from survivors of the residential school system. As a result of these hearings, a comprehensive set of recommendations was released. Among these were a series of recommendations specifically related to Education. This represents a call to action for our Union. Through a combination of workshops, plenary and solidarity building, participants will have an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the issues that precipitated the Commission hearings, the report recommendations, and the role education can play in reconciliation.
