Continuum of Injury – Injury Recognition, Recovery, Prevention – Saving Lives
The 2018 National Health & Safety and Workers’ Compensation Conference ”Continuum of Injury – Injury Recognition, Recovery, Prevention – Saving Lives” is our forum for the exchange of shared knowledge and experience with the aim to diligently fight for fair compensation and return to work policy for injured workers and to continue promoting safe and healthy practices at work. We will focus on the importance of initiating and sustaining conversation and actions about workplace accident prevention and fair compensation for injured workers as the World of Work becomes more challenging, faster-paced and more complex – creating new workplace hazards.
Over a century has passed since the enactment of the Workmen’s Compensation Act. All those year’s workers have continued the fight for recognition and improved compensation for workplace injuries. Through demonstrations, organizing campaigns, work refusals and occupying government offices, injured workers have, step by step, gained greater rights.
Four full decades have passed since the Occupational Safety and Health Acts across the country were enacted promising every worker the right to a safe job. Workers have the fundamental right as human beings to work in a workplace free from harm. Even more, we have the right to good health, the highest state of physical, mental and social well-being.
Still, each year, hundreds of workers are killed and thousands more are injured or diseased because of their jobs.
We will not allow the clock to be turned back and destroy the progress we have made!
Justice, Dignity and Respect for Injured Workers must be improved as governments and employers continue to challenge today’s Compensation systems, a sharp departure from the very foundation of no fault compensation laid out by Justice Meredith in 1914.
Health and Safety in the workplace must prevail over employer programs that “Blame the Worker” as our work continues to get harder, faster and more stressful.
