Unifor National office is producing a newsletter to update our members about the 2016 bargaining process with Ford, Fiat-Chrysler and General Motors. The publication will be distributed in the plant and also posted on our website. The initial plan is to release one per month but as things heat up the frequency will be increased. Important Dates 2016
June 1, 2016 – Unifor Auto Council meets in London, Ontario, and votes unanimously to make new investments in Canada, including new product allocations, the top priority of the 2016 round of Detroit Three auto talks.
June 24 – Notice to Bargain requests are sent to the seven bargaining units of the Detroit Three automakers.
– An Application for Conciliation is submitted to the Ontario Ministry of Labour.
August 9 – Unifor Auto Council meets on the eve of the official start of bargaining.
August 10 – Bargaining formally opens with General Motors at the Sheraton Centre in Toronto.
August 11 – Bargaining formally opens with Ford and Fiat Chrysler Canada at the Sheraton Centre in Toronto.
August 15 – Full negotiations commence at the Sheraton Centre in Toronto.
August 22-26 – Unifor National Convention in Ottawa.
August 28 – Strike votes held at Detroit Three bargaining units.
September 5 – Labour Day
September 6 – Pattern bargaining target picked.
September 19 – Detroit Three contracts expire, putting Unifor and the employers in a legal strike/lockout position.
Once a contract is reached with the first pattern bargaining target, negotiations will commence with the next Detroit Three employer, to be determined, and then the third.
