Walk A Mile In Her Shoes

Local 199 is excited to form a team to participate in the Walk A Mile In Her Shoes Campaign for Gillian’s Place. This is an excellent cause for an organization that we as a Local have supported for years.

Date: Saturday, October 15th

Registration: 9:30am (It is recommended that you arrive early if you do not have your own shoes to wear. They have a limited supply of shoes ranging in size from 5 – 16 mens.)

Start Time: 11:00am (Opening ceremony, walk to start at 11:15am)

Walk a Mile in HER Shoes is a symbolic march that gives men and male-identifying allies the opportunity to take a stand against violence against women. We are abundantly grateful to our corporate sponsors, walkers, ambassadors, and donors, who over the past 16 years have helped raise over $1,290,000 for Gillian’s Place. Beyond raising vital funds for Gillian’s Place, the men’s march has helped spread awareness about violence against women in Niagara, and beyond.

Since the last men’s march at the Pen Centre, Gillian’s Place has responded to a 91% increase across all areas of programming. This drastic increase in need for protection and support signals a dangerous and threatening increase in violence and abuse against women, children, Two-Spirit, genderqueer, trans, and non-binary folks.

We are asking our members to join the team, if possible, or to donate on behalf of the team.
