To all GM and Local 199 Membership
On Thursday, July 27th, I was appointed to the position of UNIFOR National Employment Equity Coordinator for GM, effective Tuesday, August 8, 2017. This position became available because Sue Houston, the present Unifor Coordinator is scheduled to retire on August 1, 2017.
Being involved with our union for many years has truly been a wonderful experience. As a long standing Employment Equity/Woman’s Advocate/Union Counsellor representative, I have had the opportunity to increase many of the skills and knowledge required in this new role. I am excited to begin this new chapter in my career but none of this would have been possible without your continuous support.
Throughout my years at GM, I have met so many amazing people and for this reason, I have to admit it is bittersweet. We have shared many happy times, occasional sad times and some interesting times to say the least, and that’s what makes leaving this plant so difficult. Although I will still be representing you in this new assignment, I will miss our day-to-day interactions, I will cherish the memories we have made but I will most definitely miss you all!
I want to once again THANK YOU the membership and wish you all a happy, healthy, prosperous future.
I hereby resign my positions as Executive Board Member-at-Large and St. Catharines General Motors Propulsion Plant Employment Equity/Woman’s Advocate/Human Rights/Union Counsellor Representative effective August 4, 2017.
In solidarity,
Donna Higham
