Letter to Unifor from General Motors May 2, 2020
General Motors sent the following letter to Shane Wark re the continuation of benefits, please read the letter below..

Dear Mr. Wark,
Further to your letter (re: Continuation of group benefits and insurance) dated April 8th, I can confirm that as part of our ongoing efforts to support those members on temporary layoff, General Motors of Canada will make the following changes to our group benefits and insurance coverages effective immediately:
Dental Benefits:
Dental Plan coverage will be extended to May 31, 2020. This extension will be reviewed on an ongoing basis.
Health Care Contribution:
We will temporarily waive the obligation to be in good standing with regards to the Health Care Contribution by recording a negative balance for the member (noting their payment is in arrears) until such time as the member returns to active service or otherwise received employment earnings through the existing payroll system. The Health Care Contribution will only be deducted from those members in receipt of SUB (excluding CAMI).
Group Life and Accident Insurance:
Group Life and Accident Insurance coverage will be extended to May 31, 2020. This extension will be reviewed on an ongoing basis.
Employee Paid Life Insurance:
For those members enrolled in Optional and Dependent Group Life Insurance programs, we will temporarily waive the obligation to be in good standing with regards to their premiums by recording a negative balance for the member (noting their payment is in arrears) until such time as the member returns to active service or otherwise received employment earnings through the existing payroll system.
