Team Bob White Niagara Raises over $14,145

Unifor Walks For Alzheimer’s

Team Bob White was on the march again this weekend at the Walk for Alzheimer’s held at Brock University. Members from Local 707 in Oakville and the National Organizing team joined Local 199 members at this multi generational family friendly event. Over 400 walkers were registered for this event. The indoor walk is organized by the Niagara chapter of the Alzheimer’s society raises awareness about dementia and much needed funds to help families impacted by the disease.

For the past month members of Unifor have been collecting pledges for the walk. When all the donations were tabulated at the end of the day our team had collected over $14,000 the total funds raised by all walkers in Niagara was over $120,000. These funds stay in the Niagara Region and will be used to provide much needed services to families in the community.

This year Unifor members have entered Team Bob Whites in Tillsonburg – Unifor Local 88, Woodstock – Local 636, & McMaster University – Local 5555, which raised an additional $9,286, bringing the collective Team Bob White total in 2019 to $23,471.

Last December at the Unifor Ontario Council meeting in Toronto Laura Berjawsky from the Alzheimer’s Society thanked Unifor members for raising over $50,000 in Bob Whites name and presented us with a Certificate of accomplishment for TEAM Bob White members.

A special thank you to Arnie De Vann for driving down from Oakville to take pictures for us. Congratulations to Lorie Peacock for collected over $5,000 in pledges and donations. I would also like to thank Malcolm Allen former MP for joining us at the walk.

We would like to take this opportunity to encourage other Unifor Local Unions across Canada to consider entering a Team Bob White in their community. There are over 187 community walks walks held every year chances are there is one near you. To find the nearest walk ,simply click on the link Find a Walk in Your Community, enter your province and look for the nearest walk. All you need to do is enter a team, encourage a few others to walk with you and collect some pledges. They are well run, fun, family orientated events, a great way to pay tribute to brother Bob White and keep his legacy alive.
