Labour Day 2014
Labour Day 2014 was the first Labour Day without the use of the banquet facility which created a few challenges for the organizers, no bar, no stage, no kitchen and no hall for the day’s events. The retirees came through offering the use of the retiree centre, we rented two marquee tents and set them up in the parking lot, we booked a band and inflatables for the kids. The District Labour council jumped in to share the costs with local 199. All in all it was a fantastic day, the first official “Event in a Tent” the weather was great, the band “The Wing Nuts” were excellent, the BBQ ran all day, the beer was ice cold, we couldn’t ask for a better day. This event would never have been such a success without the volunteers who ran the bars, sold tickets, set up the parking lot and cleaned up after the event. I must thank every single volunteer and send a special thank you to Ben Mandley and Linda Johnston for their help.
