GM CHAIR UPDATE – December, 2021

           Local 199            –       Chairpersons Report      –    December 2021

Management has informed the Union of the following volumes:

GF6 – has strong volumes going into the New Year. The extra volume required by our customer will likely be covered by overtime. The Company is looking to cover that additional volume by working some Saturdays in the New Year.

HFV6 – volumes in assembly are still being adjusted by customer demand and will stabilize mid-January.

The V8 – is running strong at 2 full shifts in assembly. More to follow in the New Year regarding the partial late shift.

DCT – is still scheduled to start late March.

Hiring – I’ve been asked a lot of when the Company will be hiring next. The Union has regular discussions with the Company on Plant wide manpower. Each department is being looked at to determine the need to fill full time openings. We will look to hire from the TPT group for full time openings when the time comes. More to come in the New Year.

We are hiring      2 – ELECTRICAL APPRENTICES from within the plant. Applicants may apply through workday:

COVID – with the Ormicon variant spreading across the Country and the Provincial Government and Public Health adjusting their protocols again heading into the Christmas holidays we are reminded (not that we needed it) that we are not out of the woods yet. We are all tired and frustrated with how long Covid has been impacting our lives, but we must remain vigilant especially through the Christmas Holiday Break. Be safe as you gather with your family and loved ones. If you are experiencing any symptoms before returning to work the call the GM Canada Medical Central Line at               519-425-3105 before coming to work. Government Covid paid days have been extended to July 31st .

TRANSFERS – the new transfer system has been giving some members problems. If you are submitting your own transfers through the QR-Code system, then you should know you can only submit one entry at a time. Each transfer entry should be entered consecutively up to a maximum of 4 entries. For example, if you enter 3 entries this week and 1 entry next week the system will honor the latest entries of 1 and erase the previous 3 from the week earlier. That is why we recommend when you do your own entries to enter your 4 selections consecutively. Any questions just ask your committeeperson.

KRONOS UPDATE – we’ve worked through a lot of pay issues since we’ve transitioned to Kronos. One important thing we’ve learned is the sooner you recognize something wrong with your pay and escalate that to your group leader or committeeperson the better the chances are of getting it corrected that week or next. Getting PAYSTUBS shipped to the plant has been an issue but that seems to be getting better. If you are still having problems getting your paper paystubs, then make your supervisor aware. If you have a workday account, then your supervisor can print off your paystub for you. We are expecting KRONOS KIOSKS in the New Year in both the East and West Clock houses so you can check your pay information.

I wish all of you a Merry Christmas! Have a safe and Happy New Year!! And we’ll see you back to work January 4th!
