GM Strike Preparation

Important Message for GM Strike Preparation

As the deadline approaches with General Motors, your Master and Local Bargaining Committees are working hard to reach a fair tentative agreement that follows the pattern set previously with Ford and FCA (Chrysler).  To ensure that we are prepared for a strike, our strike coordinators have been working to finalize the details needed in order to begin, if and when necessary.  If a tentative agreement is not reached by 11:59 pm on November 4th, without an extension put into place, then we will be on strike.  Updates will be posted to our social media pages and website. We are asking the membership of Local 199, GM Unit to prepare to be on strike.  We hope it will not come to that and instead GM will meet the pattern agreement.

In preparation for this, a sign up for strike duty will take place at the plant.

  • West (Main) Clock house only
  • Friday October 30th
  • 5:30 am-7:30 am & 1:30 pm-3:45 pm

Members working midnights must sign up in the main lobby before leaving the plant. The strike duty shifts will start Thursday, November 5 at 12:01 am. The sign-up sheets will be for all days of the week, Monday through Sunday, 12:01 am-6:00 am, 6:00 am-12:00 pm, 12:00 pm-6:00 pm, and 6:00 pm – 12:00 am. You will be assigned a strike shift if you do not sign up.

If you are not working on Friday you may email 199elections@gmail.com on Saturday with your top 3 shift choices and we will try to accommodate your request.

You must sign up and complete your full 6-hour picket duty shift every week to receive strike pay. Strike pay is $300.00/week or $42.86/day of the dispute. TPT members are eligible for strike pay.

Important Strike Reminders:  The Bargaining Committees will negotiate right up to the deadline and provide a report to the membership prior to making an announcement to the media.  To prepare for a strike, all members at GM facilities will be signed up for picket duty.

Voter Registration:  By now, most members at GM have registered to vote in the upcoming information/ ratification process.  If you have not registered, active members can go to  https://unifor199.org/email-submission/   If you have registered in the past, there is no need to register again.  If you have any issues around the registration process, please contact the GM Council Lead for Simply Voting, Peter Scott at:  education@unifor199.org.
