From the Hall, June 2019

From The Hall

Brothers and Sisters, it is with pleasure that I write my first report as Vice President of Unifor Local 199. First and foremost, I would like to take a moment to welcome the 192 members of Welded Tube in Welland to Unifor Local 199. We are excited to announce that Friday, June 21, 2019 we will have begun negotiating the first contract for this new unit.

Over the months of May and June Unifor Local 199 negotiated and ratified three separate agreements. Assemble Rite, David Chev Old and Tora Inc. all ratified their Collective Agreements. Congratulations to the Bargaining Committees, President Greg Brady and the National Staff Representatives who worked on these contracts and successfully bargained gains for our members at these locations.

The Executive Board would like thank all the active Standing Committee’s for all their hard work over the first half of 2019. The Recreation Committee, Young Workers Committee, Women’s Committee and Environmental Committee have organized very successful events. The Community Services Committee has recently committed $250.00 of their fund to 10 children to participate in the Niagara Regional Police Fishing Derby. We would also like to remind the membership that the Standing Committee elections are quickly approaching in the fall.

The Unifor Local 199 Executive Board would like to thank all the members who attended, participated and volunteered at the Local 199 Safari Niagara Family Picnic. It was an amazing day and photos from the event are posted on the local Union website http://unifor199.org/2019/06/23/family-picnic-2019/

Coming up over the next few months we will be looking for volunteers to help out with some Local 199 initiatives. It’s time for a facelift, so we are currently looking to build a base of volunteers to help paint our union hall. We are also looking for volunteers and participants for the upcoming Labour Day Parade, September 2nd, 2019.

There are a few other initiatives that we would like to make note of:

To encourage members to attend membership meetings we Local 199 is has taken on two new initiatives, on  atrial basis we plan to offer a  babysitting  service for  (September and October) meetings.  If you know a trained babysitter who would be interested  please contact Jordan Lennox at Jordan.Lennox@hotmail.ca. We will also be creating a sign up page for membership to request the babysitting service and to determine necessity of this program.  The next membership meeting is on September 17th 2019.  We are also planning a BBQ at the hall on October 16th, 2019 following the October membership meeting. We would like to invite all of our members to come out and enjoy a burger on us!

On behalf of the Executive Board I would like to wish all our members and families a safe summer.

In solidarity,
Vice President
Jordan Lennox
