Walmart Workers Join Unifor

This week, workers in a Walmart Distribution Centre in Mississauga, Ontario, voted to join Unifor.

Our union proudly welcomes more than 800 new members following this successful organizing drive. An organizing victory such as this one requires the support and participation of the entire union: from staff, to local unions and member organizers who worked together to help new warehouse members come to our union.

Walmart, a notoriously anti-union company, did their best to spread falsehoods about the protections of a union. Workers saw through the thinly veiled intimidation and chose unity over fear and division.  In spite of countless obstacles, the workers voted in favour of joining union.

We know that the best way to bring fairness and improvements to the workplace is to have a collective agreement in place. These new members can now, with the full support of Unifor, begin the work to bargain their very first collective agreement.

I know you will join me in welcoming our new members to Unifor, and let’s work together to keep building Unifor as the union for everyone.
