From the Hall, August 2019

Sisters and Brothers,

I hope everyone is having a safe and enjoyable summer. The Executive Board has been busy negotiating a new lease for the hall, organizing the Labour Day parade and working on Welded Tube’s frist collective agreement. Some of the small units are hiring and the Standing Committee elections are quickly approaching.

Two of our small units are currently hiring. First Ontario Credit Union is looking for part time bank tellers. Paramed is also hiring. They are looking for Personal Support Workers and Registered Practical Nurses. These are both great opprotunities for our members to refer family and friends to these employers. I would recommend getting in touch with the Chairperson of these small units and asking them to help facilitate the application process if you are interested.

While still a couple of months away, the Standing Committee Elections are quickly approaching. We encourage all members to become actively engaged in our community outreach and activisim. No matter what your interests there is a Standing Committee that can help facilitate. Stay on the lookout for the notice of election in the upcoming months.

The Executive Board approved a table reservation for the United Way’s Trivia Night, being held at The Warehouse in St. Catharines. The event is targeting workers and activists under the age of 40 in an effort to retain and revitalize the United Way’s charity base. Thank you to Jessica McCourt and Erika Mauro for spearheading this initiative.

On a personal note, I am looking forward to representing Unifor Local 199 at the Canadian Constitutional Convention in Quebec City between August 18th and 23rd. Keep an eye out for my special report in September or follow me on Facebook for day-to-day updates.

In solidarity,

Jordan Lennox, Vice President
