We hope all our members are enjoying the summer months and time off with your families. On behalf of the Executive Board, we would like to congratulate Donna Higham and Mark Roy for their respective appointments to the National Union. Donna has served three terms on the Executive Board and Mark has been an elected representative at Local 199 for over 25 years. Donna is the new UNIFOR National Employment Equity Coordinator for GM and Mark has been appointed as UNIFOR Supplier Relations Coordinator.

Executive Board Elections

These appointments mean we will have two vacancies on the Executive Board to be filled; Vice President and Member-at-Large. Pursuant to the bylaws of Local 199, the Local Union Election’s committee will issue a Notice of Election and schedule an election to fill all vacant Executive Board positions. We will talk to the Elections Committee to select dates and make the necessary arrangements, which will be posted in the workplace and on the Local Union Website.

New Units/Bargaining

We would like to take this opportunity to welcome two new units to Local 199, Para Med and Nutra. Currently we are negotiating to secure a first contract at both of these units. Contracts are expiring in September at Iafrate Machine Works and Pleasant Manor, bargaining is scheduled to start early September. Negotiations are also scheduled at Spencer ARL and Welland City Parks in December.
