GM Layoff Information July 2017

Union question: Week of “June 26, 2017” is the vacation payout of the lump sum for both Traditional members and New Hires?

Company answer: Yes – lump sum vacation payment will be made the week of June 26th

Union question: Week of “June 26, 2017” is also the allocation week for the lump sum payout for both   traditional and new members?

Company answer: Yes – lump sum vacation payment will also be allocated to the week of June 26th (minus all other weeks of deferred vacation)

Union question: “July 3 & 10, 2017” are layoff weeks for traditional members and “July 17 & 24, 2017” are vacation weeks and they will be paid vacation pay?

Company answer: Yes – 40hrs of deferred vacation hours/monies will be allocated to each of the weeks of July 17th & 24th for all eligible traditional members (regardless of them being on layoff during the weeks of July 3rd & 10th)

Union question: All New Hires will be laid off during shutdown “July 3 & 10 2017”

Company answer: Yes – if they do not have seniority to hold, then they will be laid-off during the weeks of July 3rd & 10th

Union question: “July 3, 10, 17 & 24, 2017” are layoff weeks for New Hires that are laid off for the month of July?

Company answer: The weeks of July 3rd & 10th are layoff weeks.  The Designated Vacation Period (Shutdown) is the weeks of July 17th & 24th – however because New Hires in Year 1 do not have an actual allocation of vacation hours (because they only receive 4% vacation pay) they are to be coded “X” (shortage of work) in GMTKS for those particular weeks.

Union question: We have some members starting their 13 week voluntary layoff the week of “July 17 & 24 2017” do they still receive vacation pay for shutdown?

Company answer: Yes – 40hrs of deferred vacation hours/monies will be allocated to each of the weeks of July 17th & 24th for all eligible traditional members (regardless of them being on layoff prior to, and/or immediately following, the shutdown period)

Union question: If I have vacation booked during the first two weeks of July do I need to cancel it in order to get EI for that time?

Company answer:   Yes, vacations must be cancelled ASAP prior to the layoff to be eligible to receive EI.
